Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to 6th grade Math! This year we will be studying a variety of topics based on the Common Core State Standards, including ratios and proportional relationships, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry and statistics and probability. We will also focus on problem solving, MCAS preparation, and STEAM project-based learning.
Students are expected to arrive in class on time and with their materials. Each student should bring their planner, math folder, homework folder (both folders should be plastic or heavy duty), highlighters and two pencils to class every day. All supplies are due Tuesday, September 6. At home, you may want to provide your child with a designated study space with pencils, scrap paper and a calculator.
Students will receive a weekly homework packet. The homework packet serves both as practice of current topics as well as review of skills taught previously in the year. Additional homework may be given throughout the year, including MCAS practice and projects. If a student is absent, he or she is responsible for making up any missed work within one week of absence.
Extra help is available after school on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Students are required to sign up for extra help during the school day and to indicate what they would like help with, such as homework, test and quiz revisions and the like. Students may revise unit tests and quizzes and earn back up to half of points lost. They will have one week to complete test and quiz revisions. Framingham Public Schools uses X2, an online grading system, to post student grades. Parents and students can log in anytime to check current grades, missing assignments and test scores.
